Oico Smart TV

UX/UI Design

Smart Ecosystem

Overview

Oico turns the TV from a passive screen into an adaptive social companion for urban solo-dwellers. Designed for multifunctional small spaces, it ensures seamless digital co-presence and ambient transitions through a TV interface, dedicated remote, and mobile companion app.  Validated through iterative testing, the integrated ecosystem significantly outperformed legacy smart TVs in usability and emotional engagement.

01

Context & Problem Framing

In compact, multi-purpose homes, solo-dwellers struggle to balance shifting daily routines and persistent isolation. Yet, the living room TV remains a passive display, forcing shared moments onto fragmented secondary screens.

02

Research

Benchmarking existing TVs against industry best practices and pain points established our baseline, which we validated through user interviews and testing grounded in domestic routines.

Core Insights

Meaningful shared moments

Enable seamless co-presence and shared moments across distances through a single unified interface.

Flexible ambience

Fluidly adapt screen behavior to evolving domestic routines while synchronizing with home devices.

Privacy and Independence

Empower users with intuitive control over their visibility and privacy, balancing connection and autonomy.

Reliable system

Provide consistent cross-interface experiences, clear feedback, and error prevention.

Concept

The

Flexible

Companion

From casually chatting at 9am to shared movie at 9pm, it moves through your day with you

Co-presence & Privacy

Share ambient presence or schedule movie nights and focus sessions with direct invites, supported by instant privacy controls, to stay connect while never giving up on your autonomy.

Ambience & Scenes

Create, schedule, and automate custom Scenes that sync automatically to your smart lights, home devices, and screen widgets to your daily routine.

05

Process & Prototyping

Through an Agile prototyping framework, each fidelity stage, from paper mockups to interactive software, was validated with target users to ground system mechanics and ergonomics in real feedback.

06

The Ecosystem

Oico brings adaptive intelligence to any TV without requiring new hardware. Paired with smart objects, the ecosystem reshapes the entire room, tuning lighting, atmosphere, and social presence to separate daily routines.

TV Interface

Connected home accessories that sync automatically with active scenes.

Plug-in Kit

HDMI stick and camera module turning standard screens into connected hubs for shared moments.

Remote

Tactile handheld controller with inputs that automatically adapt to the current active scene.

Companion App

Mobile app to pair devices, invite guests remotely, edit profiles, and purchase kit extensions.

Extended Kit

Connected home accessories that sync automatically with active scenes.

07

Testing & Benchmarking

Target users tested the complete ecosystem through comprehensive heuristic and usability evaluations. Benchmarked against legacy smart TVs, the results confirmed significantly reduced friction and heightened emotional resonance.

SEQ

The SEQ of core tasks from the user research improved.

PREMO

Emotions: higher positive, lower negative. However there is a higher boredom spike.

UEQ

Improvements in all aspects, in particular in efficiency, dependability and perspicuity.

Lower stimulation confirms Premo results on boredom.

Results from the final tests on Oico ecosystem.

Results from the tests conducted during the research phase.

Key Learnings

Multi-touchpoint ecosystem integration

Context-driven & mixed-methods research

Advanced interactive prototyping
